About Straight pool

It takes a potter to play straight pool. The goal is to pot as many balls in a row as possible without creating a foul or scratch and by doing so, accumulating points.

Setting Up

Using the standard 16 pool balls, the 15 numbered balls are racked like a regular pool rack, and the white ball is placed behind the second set of diamonds (from the break off position at the bottom of the table).

The scoring system for straight pool is as follows:

Pot a ball, earn a point. Simples!

How to play straight pool

It takes a potter to play straight pool! To start a game a player is chosen to break off by lagging.  The goal is to pot as many balls in a row as possible without creating a foul or scratch; if either happens, the player must wait until the other player commits a foul or scratch. When potting balls they must be “called” to be lawfully potted. Each legally pocketed ball counts as one point. The first player to reach a certain score (declared when the game begins) is the winner.
