A Variety of Games

As well as the popular 8 ball and 9 ball pool games, there are several variations of cue sports that you might find interesting.
Challenge yourself with one of the great games below!

Snooker

Snooker is a highly popular sport in many nations these days. British Army soldiers founded it in India in 1875.
There are 22 balls in the game: the white cue ball, 15 red balls, and 6 colored balls. The goal of the game is to get as many points as you can; the player with the most points at the end of the frame wins.

Frame = 1 round of play, from the initial setup and break-off to the last pot or concession from a player.
Match = A pre-arranged number of frames. i.e. 19 frames (the first to 10 wins the match).

Billiards

Billiards is played using a red object ball and two white cue balls, one of which is plain and the other spotted (this can be swapped for a solid or spotted yellow ball). At the beginning of the game one of the cue balls is assigned to each player/team. You can gain points by potting, going in-off, or making a cannon. A points target is set at the beginning of the game and the first player to reach that number wins.

Carom Billiards

Carom billiards (sometimes called French billiards) is usually played on a pocket-less table and points are scored by getting caroms (hitting off a cushion and striking another ball). While somewhat popular in Europe it is hard to find a table in the US.

Straight Pool

It takes a potter to play straight pool. The goal is to pot as many balls in a row as possible without creating a foul or scratch; if either happens, the player must wait until the other player commits a foul or scratch. When potting balls they must be “called” to be lawfully potted. Each legally pocketed ball counts as one point. The first player to reach a certain score (declared when the game begins) is the winner.
